Prepare meatballs: Finely grate the onion and chop the garlic. In a bowl, mix the meat, egg, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs and parsley. Salt and pepper. Form meatballs by inserting a cheese cube in the center of each, making sure to close the meat well around it.

Browning meatballs: In a large pan, heat a drizzle of olive oil. Brown the meatballs on all sides over medium heat for 5-6 minutes. Set aside.

Make the sauce: In the same pan, sauté the sliced onion and chopped garlic for 3-4 minutes. Add the tomato puree, herbs, sugar, salt and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.

Final simmering: Return the meatballs to the sauce. Cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes over low heat until the meatballs are cooked and the cheese is melted.
