    Meatball preparation: In a large bowl, mix the meat, egg, breadcrumbs, parmesan, parsley, garlic and spices. Form 3-4 cm diameter meatballs. Brown them for 5-6 minutes in hot oil, then set aside.

    Sauce preparation: In the same pan, sauté the chopped onion for 3-4 minutes. Add garlic, then tomato coulis, paste, herbs and sugar. Simmer for 15 minutes. Return meatballs to sauce and continue cooking for 10 minutes.

    Pasta cooking: Cook spaghetti al dente in a large volume of salted water. Drain while reserving some cooking water.

    Assembly and gratin: Preheat oven to 200°C. In a gratin dish, mix pasta with some sauce. Arrange meatballs and remaining sauce. Sprinkle with cheeses and bake 15-20 minutes until nicely browned.
