Preheat the oven to 180°C (static heat). Butter a 22 cm round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.

Melt the butter gently. Let it cool slightly.

In a bowl, whisk the eggs and sugar for 2-3 min, until the mixture whitens and becomes frothy.

Add the vanilla extract, then the warm melted butter in a thin stream, mixing to combine.

Fold in the flour, ground almonds, and baking powder. Mix gently with a spatula.

Peel the pears, cut them in half, remove the core and slice them thinly into strips.
